Africans in Britain – a two thousand year history Talk by local author Marika Sherwood Africans have lived in Britain at least since they arrived as part of the conquering Roman army. This talk will serve as an introduction to this history, including a glimpse of some African residents in Kent. Marika Sherwood is a Sr Research Fellow at London University. She has written many books and articles on aspects of this history, and most recently, two books on how British merchants, bankers and others managed to circumvent the Acts of 1807 and 1833 making it illegal to trade in enslaved Africans and abolishing slavery. |

Lorraine Ayensu Following on from her regional and national successes in 2006 and 2007, Bristol based singer songwriter Lorraine Ayensu is coming to Borden Grammer School with her trio. Lorraine is of Ghanaian & British heritage, and grew up in the North East. She describes her songs as a conversation between all the music she likes. She draws on the forms of British and American song-writing and combines them with world beat, soul, urban, rock and jazz sounds.
