promoting and developing the Arts in Swale

Creativity Pays

A handsome reward awaits performing artists living or working in the Borough of Swale if they apply for the forthcoming Swale Arts Forum Bursary Award for 2009. Raised to £700, the Award is intended to support the work of an individual performing artist or group, including amateur companies, who seek to raise the level or extend the scope of their work in the year ahead. Launched at the Swale Celebration of Cultures event on Saturday, 18 October at Borden Grammar School, Swale Arts Forum Chairperson Chris Jewell, stated: ‘This is a remarkable opportunity to support home grown talent and demonstrate, once again, the commitment that the Swale Arts Forum is determined to make in acknowledging and promoting the Art in this area.”

The winner of Swale Arts Forum’s first Bursary Award was announced in February this year. Talented Sheppey based visual artist James Allchin carried away the prize for his remarkable student degree level work at the Slade School in Oxford. Since then, interest in the Arts Bursary has grown enormously with recognition quickly emerging that for the first time it has been possible to put the work of local artists firmly in the public eye. Further information on how to apply is now available with the closing date for this year’s Award being Wednesday, 31 December 2008. The 2009 Award Winner will be announced on Monday, 26 January 2009 with the Award Ceremony scheduled to take place at the Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne at 7.00pm on Saturday, 7 February.
