A Heritage Centre with a Difference

The gunpowder works at Oare were in production from the 16th century through to the 1930′s. Following a collaborative effort between Swale Borough Council and Groundwork Kent & Medway the site was transformed into a charming mix of industrial heritage and wildlife habitats. The visitor centre is open at weekends, providing information on all aspects of the country park. Woodland, wetland and grassland provide a mosaic of habitats for birds, reptiles, amphibians, bats and insects. The Friends group was set up in 2007 and carry out various conservation activities around the site, meeting at 10 o’clock on the second sunday of each month at the visitor centre. All are welcome to come along and join in.
